Manoranjan CIC are delighted to be undergoing their first theatre R&D, which is a modern adaption of Rabindranath Tagore’s original story of Chitrangada. This is thanks to funding from Arts Council England and support from NPO organisation Kala Sangam, based in Bradford, as well as Manchester’s HOME, and Ri Ri’s Dance Academy.

We have completed this research and development, in two stages, at both Kala Sangam and HOME, allowing us to focus on some key areas of this new theatre production, with a wide variety of artists.

This project involves Artistic Director Ria Meera Munshi, who will also be writing this play, being mentored by award-winning writer Louise Wallwein MBE. Ria and Louise have previously worked together as they co-wrote children’s theatre tour of Sue & Sita, for Ri Ri’s Dance Academy.   

This support from Arts Council England, and our partners, is invaluable to Manoranjan CIC as it allows us to create work for diverse audiences, as we re-tell the story in a contemporary manner.
